How well does touch up paint from Mercedes Match up

Hello guys/gals,

I finaly got a paint chip on my SLK (silver). I want to touch it up myself. I just want to know how well the mercedes paint from the dealer will match up to my silver (color coad 744) slk.

Has anyone tried the mercedes silver touch up paint.

Also you have to buy it in a kit now including the clear coat. Do you have put the clear coat on to get the paint to match.

Also in the pass I have bought touch up pen bought from a mercedes dealer (but not made by the dealer) and the pen work well on silver. Should I stick with what works.

About all I can tell you is, M-B touch-up ( my car is 744 silver as well ), will not be a perfect match.
It seems very difficult to match metallic colors 100 %.
You can, and probably should, use the clearcoat after touch-up.
In my experience, depending on the viewing angle, it matches when you look at it one way, but not the other.

Due to the nature of metallics in general, it's even difficult to shoot paint onto an entire section of a car and get it to match the rest of the body!

If you look at inexpensive silver-painted cars , you can even see the telltale spray patterns!

Factor in a bit of color fade from prolonged sunlight exposure, and the possiblity of a match is even more remote...

In Search of the perfect color match

I concur with the others regarding brilliant silver metallic paint matching. My gas filler cover has traveled the country to paint touchup manufacturers in the relentless pursuit to attain the perfect color match for silver metallic. When viewed at an angle, the touch up paint looks like a perfect match, while head on, it's definitely noticeable. I'm told it's in the alignment of the reflective metallic particles suspended in the paint. The worst match as been the factory bottles of touchup while the Paintscratch Co. is the best of the one's I've tried lately.

What's the easiest color to touch up? Mine is while and I'm anticipating having to paint around the rear window after I fix the rust there. Then I'll need to do some work on the fenders and repaint that.

My thought is to just spray on some myself just to cover up the primer. Once I have all of my rust repairs done, I'll take it and have the whole thing painted by a professional.

I think you must go for an online help Car Repair. I have also experienced the same problem and then one of my friends suggested me this website.

How well does Duplicolor and other off the shelf touch up paint do? I was thinking of painting my grill to match the body (white), so the paint will not be directly adjacent to the original body paint.

^ I used VW 02041 candy white on my SD, its classic white in MB speak, very, very close.
This came in a paint on tube, don't know if they offer a spray.
I used their gloss white on the headlight doors, it's different ("brighter"), but not by much.
Don't know if you can tell in the pic, I can, because I painted it.
From a short distance, it's hard to see the touch up color differences.

Yeah, I can see what you mean about the surround to the headlights, but it's not really noticeable. Had you not mentioned it to me, I might not have even noticed.

That's true. It's less noticeable if the two surfaces are not right next to each other.
