OK - the question du jour..
On my 300E there is a short strip of trim/moulding between the front passenger door and the front right quarter-panel (approximately 6-8" in length). There seems to be 2, 3 or even 4 clips that somehow or another secure this strip to the body. I have the moulding but can't figure out how in the heck to keep it on! I know it ain't exactly rocket science here. Am I missing something trivial (like broken clips)?? Any and all help is appreciated. Stephen Davis 1988 300E ready for a good 'warshin'.. |

I would love to help you out. However, this topic belongs in Tech Help...
(obligatory detailing content) You could polish and wax under the molding strip before you put it on.... Who knows the next time you will have a chance to clean that area? Lee |

The exact same thing happened on my '86 300E.
You have one or more clips that are broken. Mercedes Benz will not sell you the clips, they claim that you have to buy the whole piece. I think that is incorrect...but that's what they told me. After the MB dealership-bodyshop did a very poor job of using "super" glue to try to put it back on....which lasted about 3 days....I fixed it myself. I used a small bolt with a large flat head and slid the flat head into the "track" that the clips are on....I then used a nut and tightened it on there...I cut off the excess bolt threads and painted it smoke silver like my car. The amazing thing is that all the Mercedes Concourse judges that have checked my car over have never caught it as "not original" It really looks nice and it is solid. I hope this helps! Good Luck! OK - I admit it (which is the first step to recovery).
After close inspection - I determined that I was trying to install the moulding UPSIDE down. The clips are in tact but I never bothered to check the 'rails' placement on the moulding to which the clips snap into. Duh?!?
