I searched recent articles and haven't seen any detail on recommended car washing techniques. Comment on commercial car washes vs hand wash. How much soap? Are dishwashing detergents OK? What type of mit, brush, or sponge? Drying? Any other suggestions.

Search within ALL articles in the detailing forum. You'll find Lee's series on washing and drying. More info than you could think to ask...

Use a commercial car wash soap as dishwashing liquid will strip the wax. Just follow the instructions on the label as for how much to use.
To dry the car I prefer cotton terrycloth towels(clean ones!), there's less spotting than with a chamois.

My series of washing and drying is rather complete... Use the drop down menu to select "all messages in the last year" then search. If you can't find them (there are about 5 or 6) I will email you copies in Word...

Just email me if you need anything.

Hope this helps...Lee

Just click on "search" in the upper right corner of this page. Enter "wash" in the box that says "search words" and click on "Perform Search". That's all you need to do. You will get every post ever written with the word "wash" in it.

Look for the articles "Washing your car (parts 1 & 2) and Drying.

By using the drop down menu to show you all the messages that have ever been posted in the detailing forum you should be able to find what you want. Not to brag, but if I wrote it...and its REALLY long...that should be what your looking for. I seem to remember topic names being "washing", "washing part 2", "drying", "cleaning your paint", etc.

Happy Reading...Lee
