Is it reasonable to expect a body shop paint job to look nearly as flawless as a factory paint job?

I recently got my 90 pearl-black 300E from the body shop for some front-end repairs. Repairs included new hood & grille + new paint on hood and upper part of fender (above the pin stripe).

Maybe I'm being too picky but there's lots of flaws. There's an inch-long specked light streak by the windshied washer nozzle, many pin-point dimples, and a heavy rounded drip ridge of overapplied clearcoat just above the pin stripe. This is supposed to ba a reputable place, but I'm not happy. They have a satisfaction guarantee, but I hate to go through the hassle of bringing it in again.

Should I just let it go?

I would NOT let something like that go. Any paintwork, especially bad paintwork can deduct thousand in value from your car. There is no reason for those flaws. True, almost nobody can match factory orange-peel. But the kind of gross flaws you mentioned there are no excuses for. I know it is a hassle, but it is something that really needs to be done right.

Hope this helps...Lee
