Thank you Lee! Flitz chrome polish is awesome!!! I always thought my grill looked great...then I tried the Flitz you recomended, and I actually saw black coming off onto my rag. (and I thought my grill was spotless!) After wiping the Flitz off, my chrome grill turned into a mirror. It was awesome.
The only negative is that it is hard to find. The only place that had it around here is Tru-Value Hardware. I bought a $.59 sample packet of it at the register. Now I have to go back and buy a can/bottle of it. Thanks again Lee! Mike ------------------ 1986 300E 138k MBCA Concours Judge Board Member - Western Reserve Section |

Hi Mike-
I agree with you 120%. Lee - great suggestion on the Flitz!! I finally got around to applying Flitz to my MB's grill and to the chrome plate above my radiator as well. I was at my parents house on Saturday when I did mine. My dad liked it so much - I did his Lincolns' grill and trim too (Father's Day thing). The first thing my wife noticed was how bright the MB Star was and how good the grill looked. It is a great product - not too cheap but good! Stephen Davis 1988 300E 91k miles MBCA - N. Thanks for the kind words guys. Actually, the real credit has to go to Bill Wood on this one. He put me onto Flitz in the first place. I'm glad it is working out so well for you.

Guys, maybe I am off here but is the star or the grill (on '99 CLK320) actually chrome. I thought it was all just cheap plastic and had cleaned it with windex. Stupid or what? I also added those headlight rings to the car and its the same cheap plastic (but I still think it "looks" good).

Trim in lesser cars may be cheap plastic. You have chrome there. Use Flitz to polish and clean pretty much all the metal on your benz. You paid for the best, now make it look like it.

DO YOU GUYS THINK THAT FLITZ WOULD WORK ON THE CHROME TRIM BY THE DOOR AND THE WINDSHIELDS ??? MY 420 SEL HAS THIS WHITE SPOTTING ON THE CHROME THAT WILL NOT COME OFF. IT IS ON all OF MY CHROME TRIM EXCEPT FOR THE GRILLE AND THE BUMPERS ??? I HAVE USED 2 DIFFERENT KINDS OF POLISH IN A SMALL AREA WITH NO RESULTS AT ALL. HAS ANYONE EXPIERENCED THIS WHITE SPOTTING ??? ANY COMMENTS WOULD BE OF HELP. THANK YOU

John,
Flitz should work on that trim you mention. Give it a try and let us know how it turns out. Lee |

The annodized aluminum trim is what I was talking about. Flitz really does work on the annodized metal trim. It may take some elbow grease, but you shouldn't have to kill yourself, and it really should work. Flitz shouldn't change the color (it changes shade as it ages) but it will take care of the clouding. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
Hope this helps...Lee |

IT DIDN'T WORK AS WELL AS I THOUGHT IT WOULD.
I PUT IT ON A FEW TIMES USING ELBOW GREASE WITH ONLY SMALL IMPROVMENTS. I FOLLOWED ALL THE DIRECTIONS AND I AM NOT SATISIFIED WITH THE RESULTS OF THE PRODUCT. I KNOW THAT TRIM WILL NEVER LOOK AS GOOD AS THE BUMPERS BUT I WILL KEEP USING FLITZ BECAUSE IT IS STILL BETTER THAN OTHER TYPES OF POLISH. |

When the annodized trim is new, it is black. It turns lighter and more chrome-ish as it ages. (starting with deep purple then getting lighter) There is nothing that can be done about that. The cloudiness within the trim can be fixed with Flitz, the shade cannot. The annodized trim is a different metal than the grill, it will never look exactly like that. The trim right off the assembly line isn't shiny like chrome. You can get a even patina finish of a non-polished metal which is what annodized trim is.
If you are looking for the chrome look on all your trim, I'm sure there are some aftermarket sources. To reinterate a previous post, sometimes it helps to leave Flitz on a area for about 5 mins, then remove. Repeat a few times and the uneven-cloudiness will disappear. If your still getting black off the removal rag...keep polishing. Hope this helps...Lee |

If the Flitz isn't working on your case of clouding I don't know what to tell you except you could try Meguiar's Metal Polish... If the trim ever was annodized aluminum, then it came from the factory black. Do you have a book that shows pics of older cars when they were factory fresh? If the metal is not annodized aluminum then it will look like whatever it is. (sorry, that was kind of redundant) Chrome will look like chrome until it begins to thin/peel. If there are tons of tiny swirl marks in the metal that could give it a cloudy look that Flitz may not cure... Hard to say without seeing it firsthand. I know for a fact that the trim on the W124's was annodized, ditto for much of the W140. IF we are talking chrome, then that changes things. Try letting the Flitz sit on an area for a few mins then removing. When you take Flitz to this metal, do you get lots of black oxidation off on the rag? If your not getting anymore black oxidation off then the Flitz probably can't help anymore. If you keep getting black...then keep polishing. As you said, its an 18 year old car, there could be up to 18 years of corrosion/oxidation on there to remove.
Hope this helps...Lee |

On my 86' 420 sel (126) the trim around the windows looks like it has clouding and white water spots. They are not water spots they just look like them. I tried the Flitz and left it on for a while and used elbow grease with no solid results. My trim is not scratched or damaged it just has this ugly stuff on it making my s-class Benz look like it is dirty. I have heard from more than one source that Flitz should work but I don't think they are talking about the (126), I think they may be 124 or the 201 cars ???
THANK YOU |

My bumper has an area perhaps two inches in diameter where the chrome appears to be pitted. The rest of the bumper looks much better. I've seen this on other 126's, mostly on the back bumper on the inside edge of tail light where I'm surmising that water drips down off the tail lights onto the bumper.
Can this be rubbed out (or polished) or is the chrome gone in this area? Just wondering if it's worth attacking with a buffer (or a dremel type tool with a buffing pad?) or not to bother trying. Thanks in advance, ------------------ Robert W. Roe 1984 300SD 165K miles |

Robert,
You can probably make the bumper look much better with some effort. IF the metal is pitted then you will not be able to fix that without replacement. Flitz should be able to brighten it up some. If that doesn't work you can try the dremel method with some kind of polish. Hope this helps...Lee |
