I recently had to get my W124 hood repainted (pearl black). There is a faint line on the top of the grille where it looks as if some clearcoat got sprayed on the chrome. It looks like there was some masking tape on the grille and the spray got beyond it to the unprotected area.
It's clear-colored, dull in finish, and slightly rough to the touch. Any way to get this off or should I take it back to the body shop? (again!) How about Flitz? Clay? Pete |

Thringer,
Use either the Meguiar's clay bar if it is only light overspray. If it is really stubborn then you would probably want the Clay Magic clay bar. Use the blue clay bar from clay magic with the Meguiar's #34 spray as the spray lube that comes with Clay Magic plain stinks. (unless you like trying to remove streak marks for hours) The #34 lubes every bit as well and just wipes mirror-ish with a dry terry. Just spray on the #34, knead the clay around a bit, then rub the clay accross the surface where the overspray is. When you no longer can feel any resistance in sliding the clay or can feel any pebbly overspray you are good to go. Once all the overspray is gone you will want to rewax. Meguiar's #26 or Gold Class would be the recommendations there. If that doesn't eliminate it let me know and we will take it from there. Hope this helps...Lee |
