I decided to polish and wax my 500E this past weekend. I was polishing by hand. It was extremely difficult and after working one section, I decided to just clean and wax the car.
I think that there is some wax buildup that I need to get off in order to polish the paint. What is the recommended method for 'stripping' the car down to the paint in order to polish and re-wax? Thanks! |

Mark,
The best method and product I have found for that (works great on 500E's in my experience) is to use Meguiar's Mirror Glaze #7 by hand application/removal or orbital application/remove by hand. When you are applying it you will notice where the patches of oxidation of dead wax are. Work one panel at a time and apply/remove with gentle as possible linear strokes. When you are done with the #7 you will need to wax the car as it removes ALL of the wax/protection. For wax the two choices I would recommend are either Meguiar's Mirror Glaze Yellow Wax #26 or Meguiar's Gold Class liquid wax. The Gold Class will look best on the paint, but can leave a white powder on non-painted surfaces. The #26 will work great on any surface on the car. The Gold Class will probably be easier to apply/remove. If you have any other questions or whatnot let us know and we'll take it from there. Happy Detailing....Lee |
