Having just given my 300CE a once monthly once over, I'd like to relay a neat little tip.

As far as polish applicator cloths go, I keep trying to find good ones. Some are too soft and rip apart, and some feel like they'll scratch. I looked around in our attic for a while a found some really old velvet like curtain. It has the texture of rabbit fur on one side, and smooth soft cotton on the other.

Perfect for both application and buffing (since its thick the polish wont saturate it)

Best of all, you can wash and reuse them

I'd imagine you coud by this material as off cuts from a curtain shop for like dollars per metre. I used 2 1ft sqare pads on my CE, and they didnt get manky. A quick rinse later and they're clean and ready again.

Seems well worth the money, and cheaper than endless supplies of cotton rags.

Good tip; I'm still exploring the cheapie terry cloth towels at K-Mart and similar stores, and "burn-testing" the threads when nobody's looking. Never thought of velvet curtains; thanks.

We buy 100% cotton cloth, terry, etc from a fabric store. Then we have someone who uses 100% cotton thread to cut/stitch them into cloths/rags of appropriate size. I'm now sure what the exact overall cost is. The big plus is that the quality is really top notch and you know there is nothing synthetic in it. If you are really picky and looking for the best that is the way to go. Provided you have someone who can do the work for you. If there were a demand for it we may offer them for sale to Shop Forum guests....

What about using the Meguiars Soft Buff polishing Towels? They are supposed to be 100% cotton.
Easier than sewing.

To be perfectly honest I have not used them yet. Since mine have always been made in-house I have not had a chance to use them. I have heard nothing but good reviews from those who do use them. Besides, given my prior experience with Meguiar's products you can probably trust about anything from them....

I bought a set of 100% cotton terry cloth towels from Meguiar's. For 6 Towels, 6 Applicators & a WashMitt I paid $45.55. Coming from Meguiar's I'm assuming these are 100% cotton towels down to the stitching.
