How are aluminum parts cleaned to concours
specs?
Eg. valve covers,oil filter housings,
vacuum pump housings etc. cleaned.

RR,
Assuming they have already been degreased and whatnot from road grime and underhood stress I would start by polishing them with Flitz metal polish. The Meguiar's metal polish works well on trim or stuff that only need lighter duty cleaning. The Flitz seems to work great on both the touch-ups and severe oxidation/neglect. You can find Flitz polish either on the banner at the bottom of this site's frontpage or (maybe?) at your local hardware store.

As for technique...just pay attention to detail. Apply, let sit a short bit, then buff off. Repeat until no more black-ish residue comes off on the removal rag. Then (if we are talking concours here) you will want to break out the Q-tips and hit the crevices...
