New Way to Detail Wheels
This past weekend I was detailing my C280 with the 8 hole alloys. The wheels for the most part are unpitted from brake dust. However, there were some small black dots etched into the clear coat. Having just "clayed" the body, I thought—why not try a little clay magic on the wheels. Using Meguiar's Quick Detail spray as a lube, I used a small marble sized piece of clay and rubbed out ALL the small black dots. It took about 15 minutes per wheel. After some silver touch-up paint on the "curb rash" and coat of wax, the wheels look like new. No amount of scrubbing or brake cleaner could ever get the black dots out in the past. The clay is the only safe way to bring back perfection to the finish that I have ever found.

Nice Brian. You're right it is the safest and easiest way to remove embedded brake dust, it's amazing how many uses clay has. You can also use clay to remove adhesives left behind when debadging or from stickers.
BTW I did the exact same thing to my chrome eight hole wheels when I had them, made them look new again. Actually my EVOII are going to need a nice claying soon. Anyone who hasn't tried it is living with dirty wheels.
