Hi. I was polishing my car with meguiar's scratch remover product. After I applied it to the hood, I was trying to wipe off the excess with dry terry towel. But, it was hard to remove the excess. It looks like it was glued to the hood. I had to press the towel forcefully against the hood in order to remove it... Is this normal? It appears as if I was peeling off the excess just like I would peel off potato skin. hehe.. Please let me know what I did wrong. Thanks..

I've only used the #9 once so far, on the shiny trim around my windows and doors on my SD. But, if it's coming off in sheets, like a potato skin, I think something is wrong. Either you're applying too much, or the surface is too hot. Was it sunny when you were applying it?

hi there.. Thanks for your comment. Well,, I hate to admit that I used a lot more than I should have. Also, my hood was a little warm at the time I polished it. The weather was just fine.. Lots of sunshine etc...but was kinda cold.. about 40...Well.. If you didn't experience what I went through, then I must be doing something wrong.. I am worried that I might have done some kind of damage on the hood paint. AHAHAH.....Thanks again. Later
Justin

Well, it is hard to say without seeing things in person. I have NEVER heard of any Meguiar's product (properly used of course) doing any kind of damage to a car. #9 is pretty mild as polishes go so I doubt it would be doing anything harmful. My guess is that you had gobs of oxidation that the #9 was removing. Though #9 is designed for paint, I've used it (and slobbered it) on trim before with no problems. What you mentioned about it being difficult to remove makes me think there is a bunch of oxidation that you are trying to get through. Get after the car in the shade when the car itself isn't hot/warm. If anything is suspect I would guess it is the medium with which you are applying or removing the #9 with. Are you using 100% cotton (including threads) fabric for this project? If not, that could be the culprit right there. By what you describe I would think there is just a TON of oxidation you are getting rid of. What did the surface look like under the "peeled potato skin". BTW, if your trim looks like potato skin to begin with you have problems...j/k Let me know on the above and we'll take it from there.

Hope this helps...Lee
