Hi,

I've washed with Meguiar's Car Wash solution and a sponge & bucket for a while now, but there are a few downsides to this system:

- It takes longer than a brush.
- It's harder to get corners and crevices clean.
- I worry about dragging dirty soapy water out of the bucket and back on to my paintwork.

I always pre-wet my cars for a few minutes before washing.

Is there any harm to paint (swirls, scratches) if I use a nylon bristle car wash brush with plenty of running water instead of a sponge and bucket? Do the bristles damage the paint at all?

Thanks!

I wouldn't put a nylon brush on my car.
Try using a wash mitt. It works for me.

AAAARRRGH! No nylon bristles. Sponges are not great either for that matter. Unless it is a very soft Boar's hair brush I've not seen a brush that will not leave swirls or otherwise cause problems. If you are doing the undercairage or tires that is one thing but please keep synthetic bristles off the paint. Try using a 100% cotton chenile mitt. The nap should get in crevices nicely and it will be softer than just about anything else on the finish.

Hope this helps...Lee

I have been using a boar's hair brush from Griot's. It is very, very soft, much softer than any wash mit I have used. It is expensive and probably will not last a long time. Most natural products like chamois and lambswool products tend to wear out quicker.

I use (after reading a lot of postings on this list) a sheepskin mitt for washing my car (89 300E).

I found a 3-pack of them at Costco/Price Club for $7!! I couldn't believe the low price so I bought 2 packages (I won't ever run out now!!!)

Works great and is gentle on the finish.
