Really sorry to hear that Brian. Last year someone pried the rear star off my wife's E420 with a screw driver. Must have been some kids because they did a really sloppy job and scratched the paint very deep in several places. Her car was parked in our driveway! They got the hood star off the neighbor's 240D the same night.

Sounds like you will need to have the entire bonnet repainted. Hopefully, insurance will cover some of it.

Oh I can beat that. Some idiot keyed a large swastika on my hood, right down to the metal.

Luck, I am taking it to an autobody.

When are the car security systems going to get smart enough to see them coming? Then the car can automatically quick charge the twin 50,000 Volt capacitor's and really let them have it! Oops, I've been there too guys, makes you wonder if your paying back Karma or something?

I am totally disgusted. What kind of mind frame those people are in when they do that is beyond my understanding. Only a miserable coward would heart something defenseless. Hope ur insurance covers it...

I think an airbrush type repair is what the insurance will cover. Really i want a complete respray of bonnet.... in fact, now might be a great time to get a new style (93+) bonnet... What else do I need to change? Lights?

Anyway, I'm most likely getting an A170CDI for town driving.....can leave that places without it getting scratched.

Cleaning the car today s gonna hurt!

Brian, I can relate to the disgust you must be feeling. I had an '85 Nissan Sentra's door and fenders senselessly kicked in by someone on a Saturday night long ago, and this experience made me lower my deductible on my comprehensive insurance to $0. Hope you can get the hood resprayed at no cost to you. Good luck, Bob.

Brian,
I'm so sorry to hear of your situation. Had the driver's door of my 300E keyed before. Bad part of it was that the factory paint on that car was so good (have seen show-cars at Amelia Island that would be doing well to have as little orange peel/clarity) that the bodyshops efforts to repaint the door looked absurd next to the original stuff. (not to mention they got overspray on the rest of the finish...grrrr) They finally did get it right but make sure you get a bodyshop that is willing and capable to match factory finish when repainting. Just be careful that at trade-in time the dealership doesn't try to devalue your car like its been hit based on the paintwork panel. (or to guard against them doing that ask them for a bodyshop....better yet, try to get something from your insurance but good luck...)

Perhaps we should start a petition to get laws passed making automotive vandalism punishable by torture and death?

Sorry once again Brian....Lee

Yeah, I'm devastated... numerous people have commented on my paitwork, said its the best looking paint on a 10yr old car they've seen.
'Showroom finish'...'Mirror perfect' etc had been used. Now it has a great big scar.

Anyway, gonna try to get them to do a complete respray of bonnet, and not just a touchup (they did touchup on my mum C220 and its perfect). Bodyshop wise, I'll try to insist on the main dealer who have their own bodyshop in house.

Also I'm possibly gonna get a Mercedes A170 Diesel for commuting (70mpg compared to 24 in the CE!) and leaving around town... the 300CE attracts waaaaay too much attention.

Will keep the CE for weekends etc tho, cos I love it waaay too much to see it go.

Thanks people... nice to know you guys care so much.

UUUUGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Sorry, bud...no one deserves such treatment. Just plain sucks. If you believe in reincarnation, then be assured that person's coming back as some primate's colon (or contents thereof...or maybe that's their current state...)!!
