Hey Lee or anybody else,

I was lookin' at the pix of your 400E and 500E in the Featured Cars section, and noticed that the words "Mercedes-Benz" and the MB sign are all silver on the engine cover...is it chrome silver? I've been lookin' at pix of the V8's all over the web, and noticed that the words on the engine all are written in silver/chrome. How come the sign and the words "Mercedes-Benz" on my engine is written in a sorta funny, shiny, black material...Is that normal? Do other people have the same things too?

I've noticed that on some cars the silver on the airbox is worn off or black alltogether and on some its pristine. Might have something to do with the cosmoline they coat the engine bay with. If your specific dealer, independent, previous owner, etc removed it with something harsh it could of taken the paint off with it. Don't really know why. Bet a bottle of brilliant silver touch-up paint could revitalize the lettering though...

Hope this helps...Lee

My 1994 E420 has the black lettering too. I think that this is the way they were from the factory (part of the updade).
I would suguest not painting.
Anyone else with a 1994 or 1995 V8 124 have any input.

Subman,

I recently took a pix of my engine bay w/ a digital camera...this is what your car also looks like right?

It doesn't look like there is an original coat of silver paint over the words...

No it does not. It would seem that on the 92-93 cars the airbox had the silver lettering while the 94-95 cars had the monochromatic black look. Just go for whichever "look" appeals to you. Changing one to the other isn't that hard in the grand sceme of things.

Hope this helps...Lee

Thats my motor!!!
My motor looks just like that.
If you made your car all stealth (totally black) you would not even have to do the engine cover.
