I would like to tint the windows on my E420. I am planing on useing 3M. Anyway has anyone ever had a bad expierence with tint. I see these cars with the bubbles, that looks grosse is there anything that can be done to prevent that from happening.
Can a good job be done by myself.
Thank You for any suguestions?

Have it professionally done at a place that offers a lifetime guarantee. That way if it ever goes bad you have an inexpensive (except for your time/headache) recourse. Other than that, 3M is good stuff.

Hope this helps...Lee

I just had mine done last week, it looks good. I've found a place that will do one piece back (ie, no seems to separate or overlapping tint lines). The beauty of it is that in the back window, the defroster is in the glass so if I ever had to replace the tint (shouldn't, lifetime warranty) razor blading would be easy. My question, are other MB have defroster lines inside also??

Bubbles in the tint are the product of either of 2 things: [1] glass that was NOT properly cleaned/prepped prior to installation of the tint [2] tint was NOT properly applied (i.e. - all bubbles not removed; even the tiniest will grow over time. Bottom line: use a professional; they have the facilities and know-how (the outfit I used has a cleanroom facility for cleaning the glass and applying the tint).

Good luck!

Brian

i had my car tint done 6 years ago and it is starting to turn purple and i wnat to get limo tint but lifetime may not be worht it unless you really make sure you dont scratch it or clean it with windex (turns it purple i learned the hard way) but my car is a daily driver and you would be suprised as to how easily it gets scrached and limo tint is a 155 dollars and for everfive years it is pretty good.

I agree with Lee. Get it done professionally.
I've had my 3M window tint for a couple of weeks now, and they are great. Make sure you clean the windows thoroughly before you get the tint installed.

Just thinking about the 3M is it worth the extra money?
I talked to a pro and he said that most tints are very good and that eventually all will go bad.

Although I have 3M on my 94 E420, I just had Madico "Cool Chrome" put on my 86 300E. A 35% light transmission window has 59% heat reduction. In Dallas, this has revolutionized my "inadequate" AC system to a quite adequate system even though the heat is now getting to 100 with 50% humidity. The windows are a light gray/chrome silver looking and look good on my anthracite gray car -- they would look great on my white 420 as well.
