Just wondering if it will hurt my car finish if I detail my car often?? I've purchased the full line of Meguiar's product (with several quantity of some like the quick detailer and 00 hi-tech wash). It seems everytime the car is pristine clean and I drive it about 2 days, it gets very dusty and on a black pearl color, its noticable. I don't mind spending time going from the first step to final stage of detail but can it be over done??

Don't use #9 and #7 everytime you wash your car. I wax my car about every three weeks, and wash at least once a week. After every wash, I use QuikDetailer or Final INspection on the car. It seems to renew the wax.

netdw: I also have a Pearl Black car and have the local detailer do the waxing duties. Are you having luck avoiding swirl marks after waxing (you know - the 'not buffed enough' look)? I see black cars all the time with the ugly 'I waxed it at home results' and am reluctant to do it myself until I hear of a foolproof way to avoid this.

Matt (aka: Makakio) --

You callin' ME ugly Yep, first time I waxed my Pearl Black car I had (have) those ugly swirl marks. But, since reading the great suggestions on this site, and talking to some detailers, I've gained some valuable knowledge. I'm about to embark on my first ever 2-step detailing exercise. After washing, I'll be using Meguiar's Gold Class Clear Coat Prep and Swirl Reducer. Next, I'll apply Meguiar's Gold Class Clear Coat Wax. I've tried the Swirl Reducer on a sample area of my car (part of the hood next to the quarter panel) -- this stuff really works! Rubbing my hand over the old surface feels like running it over "canvas"; over the new surface feels smooth as glass (and it really does remove the swirls -- imagine that ). Hope we can meet soon for breakfast so I can show ya how it comes out.

Tell you what - I'll get breakfast, you huff and buff. Seriously, I'd think it's got to be a combo of not putting too much on and getting a REALLY good orbital buffer.

You can't really over detail with #7, Quick Detailer, or washing. You dont' want to overdo it with #9 as it does remove a VERY small amount of paint. Its best to do it once till the swirls are completely gone then take care to only have to use #7 and lighter from there on out.

Hope this helps...Lee
