I have some tar on my carpets and I was hoping someone would have some advice on a good cleaner. I have used tar remover in the past, but it has been limited to exterior of car. I did not want to try bug/tar remover on carpet till I got some input from the experts. Buying new carpets is hopefully not in my immediate future. Johnny

I bought some Tech cleaner/spot remover at Ace Hardware that works pretty well.
You also might try Resolve.

Depends what kind of tar we are talking about...if its a smudge then I'd start with Bill's suggestions. If it is actually "clump-ish" (sorry, for the lack of technical term) then try to get the physical lumps off/broken up first.

Hope this helps....Lee

I had a detailing service for many yyears, try this. Take a clothes iron and put it on the lowest setting, then put a brown paperbag on the spot of tar. What you are doing is causing the tar to melt and then be absorbed by the paper bag.
Good luck!

Damn Dat Ole Tar Baby...

Use a Benzene base dry cleaning chemical, or Naptha to "blot" the tar stain. This has worked wonders for me on petro-based stains on fabric upholstery. One product is made by a company called "Carbona" and the other is "Energine" Spot Remover 1-800-228-4722.
