I have a '98 S-Class. Is the instrument cluster face glass or plastic? What do you recommend I use for routine cleaning and removal of finger prints, dust, etc...

Simple glass cleaner like Windex (sprayed on a cloth or paper towel to avoid splatter marks) in the heavy cleaning case, #34 and a buffing with a dry cloth most of the time.

Would you use Windex over Meguiar's plastic cleaner and polish for this area? I'd hate to cloud up my instruments with the wrong stuff, but I'm thinking of trying Meguiar's on my plastic side marker lights and taillamp housings. Hoping for a cloudy day tomorrow so I can wax my car ...

Actually I would usually go with the Meguiar's plastic cleaner in a case where I was really going for a tip-top job. It really is the superior way to go.

However, I will admit that if I'm in a hurry cleaning the interior windows or whatever that a quick wipe with either Windex or Meguiar's #34 has just de-dusted the gauge cluster. Just a case of expedience over quality. The Meguiar's plastic polish should be the way to go for best results.

How is the plastic cover in front of the gauge cluster removed? I have some stains on the back side that I would like to clean up.

I am also wondering how to clean the inside face of the instrument cluster window. I have noticed some annoying smudges and wonder how they got there?

You should check with Benzmac or the other techs in Tech Help for taking apart your gauge cluster. Beyond that, just use the steps outlined above to clean the inside.
