Well, it's started. I live in the Great (read: "wet") Northwest, and this morning we had our first massive rain of the season. (Probably won't see the sun again until about March.) Problem: glare on windshield from wetness, etc. What have y'all found to be the best of the "Rain-X" type products??? Thanks in advance. --Mitch

Mitch,

Check some of the prior posts in Detailing. I believe there is discussion of this topic and a reference to a product called VisionBlade. I've tried in and it does seem to work better than Rain-X.

Happy Motoring!

I tried one made by STP and wasn't very pleased with it. If you find one you are going to try make sure you apply it as directed. When it says to thoroughly clean the window before application, clean it thoroughly. Once you put any type of rain-X product on your window, anything that was on the window under the rain x will be there for good. Even though the rain x product loose effectivness over time it is almost impossible to get them completely off the windows. Rather than doing this I would suggest replacing the rubber in your windshield wippers and getting a good additive for your winshield washer fluid. There is one in "The Star" magazine that has been used in germany for a long time. Claims to cut "road grease" better than anything, and that's the real problem.

What moraine said is the stuff I saw in the star. Its supposed to be great. By the way the Star is much improved, even over a year ago. Check it out. My dealer gave me some small tubes of stuff to add to my windshield washer fluid and it helped a little. It was just MB windshield cleaner.

go to your nearest windshield shop and inquire about glass polisher. There are several types and strengths. The can be quite abrasive though, so use with care and follow the instructions carefully.

Rain-X is useless. DOn't even bother with it

Hey did you know that Rain-X is flammable......I also found that it tends to smear when there is light rain. I recently tried some stuff that is not flammable from a company called Dafna Auto Car Care...-- they have a product called Krystal Cleer...so far so good. I also hav etried adding their 4 ounce ultra concentrate to my wash well...also seems to do a good job. Anyone else tried that stuff?

Clear Windshield in the Rain

1.Clean it with your choice of "Windex" type product
I No Longer use Windex due to it's Ammonia.Bad for Vinyl ! AND if you've got
a bottle it's just Too Easy to use it in the Interior (AND Damage your Vinyl!)
I like "Perfect Glass".
2.Clean Windshield with DeNatured Alcohol.
3.Clean Windshield with CLR or some other product that removes Water Scale.
(Until there's no more contamination present.)
[DO NOT GET THE "DE-MINERALIZER" on ANYTHING other than the Glass!!!]
4.Clean with DeNatured Alcohol,Again.

Following Instructions apply Rainex,Let Dry, buff with Clean Dry Paper Towels.
Using a spray bottle filled with Distilled Water ,Mist the Windshield and use More
Paper Towels to Buff Dry.
REPEAT Rainex application procedure(Above) ! To Make Sure of COMPLETE coverage.

Clean and dry your Wiper Blades and apply 303 Aerospace Protectant.Wipe Dry.This will prevent UV damage to the Rubber and lessen Outgassing.

I find that at anything over 14 MPH, the wind flow wipes the H2O off the
Windshield.

Best Rain-X products

None of these products will replace the need for a windshield wiper in a heavy rain, but I tried a product called Krystal Kleer that does not contain alcohol and is not flammable. It does as good a job as Rain-x. Its made by a company called dafna...bought it online at their site.
