do you use the brush at self wash bay?

Do you use the brush at self wash bay?

Or do you bring your wash mitt to self wash bay?

In the winter I bring my own wash mitt with a pail of water and car wash soap. I will use the brush to pre clean the brake dust from the wheels and to clean wheel well.
I wouldn't want to be the guy who uses the brush after me on their paint

Sometimes I think about bringing my own pail of water too. It seems so odd to me that the self service car wash, they don't have a faucet to fill one up. I guess that's because they reuse the water that runs off the cars.

In any case, I use a system where I rinse down the car and pressure wash the wheels, and the the hard to remove grime on the body. Oh, I also fill my pail. Then I quickly run the brush over the car and wheels. Then I break out the mitt and do a thorough cleaning. Then I use the pressure rinse and I dry. This process usually requires two cycles of the wash timer, just because I hate rushing when I'm scrubbing the car.

It just needs a little extra time, just like a baby. I feel great when she sparkles.

I do, but first...

I use the brush but ALWAYS spend a few minutes hitting the brushhead with the high pressure water to rinse off all the grit from the person before me. Never had a problem with the brush. I did learn the hard way, though, to rinse off the length of the brush HOSE also. A bit of sand stuck to the hose makes a gorgeous scratch (several, if you're unlucky) when it bangs against your hood or trunk lid.

Our local car washes have signs posted forbidding the use of your own materials... I guess they want you to keep feeding quarters into their machines! Of course, there's rarely anyone there to enforce this rule, so I bring a bucket and mitt when I want to clean my car "right" and don't want to use my parents' hose and driveway.

I, like most of you, also bring my own mit and bucket. I rishe down the car really well with the pressure washer. Before time runs out I fill my bucket. I then spray simple green in my wheel wells, and on the underside of the car (yeah its a tuff reach to get under there but im 6ft2 so my arms are long.)
While the simple green soaks, I wash thhe car with my mitt, brush thhe wheel wells out with the brush at the carwash, and then feed more quarters into the machine and rinse the soap away, and then wash the wheel wells and belly of the car. So I too, as said above, would hate to be the next person using the brush...

What ratio do you use? Simple green : water.

Are your wheels steel or clear coated aluminum alloy? I heard some people saying that simple green damaged wheels over time.

its fairly diluted, have had bad experiences in the past with the stuff. Im not too worried about my wheels though, they are in dire need of a repaint anyways, since I bought the car.

don't let the stream from those high pressure hoses spend too much time hitting the tire, hit the wheels at an oblique angle with not much pressure. quickly and a bit of a distance.
it's the high pressure hose pulses that really freak out the tire construction.

Read this at the Michelin website, or one of the manufacturers web sites.

kind of surprising considering the abuse tires take.
