Refinishing wood trim...

Hey everyone. I have a question about refinishing wood trim. When it comes time to stain it, can you use a black maple stain on zebrano? Would the color come out more black or would it completely hide the grain? I would assume this would work out just fine but I know nothing about stains and I dont want to totally ruin all the trim in my car
