Last week I was wathching My classic car on TNN. The guy said that he waxed his car with Johnson Wax, the one that is sold for wood floors. I wonder if someone has experience on this.

Bought a can and waxed several selected areas on my pearl black 1986 560 SEL.

If someone else has an opinion, mainly the moderator, I would appreciate comments.

Will keep everybody posted to see if it works or the paint melts!!!

I don't think that using Johnson's Wax will harm anything. It may actually last longer than automotive wax. More than likely the downside will be a slightly hazy or cloudy result. Most quality car waxes are made to allow the maximum amout of shine show through while still providing protection.

Let us know how it turns out.

So what happened? Did it blister, flake, and peel???
I'm hoping for the best... because I'm always looking for a better (& affordable) wax.

There was good shine overall, but the best result was obtained by waxing small areas at a time (1 x 1 ft). If I tried larger areas there was some cloudiness. I assume using a polisher will do an easier and better job.

There was some rainy days here, and the areas covered by the Johnson wax seemed to protect better from the water. probably biased, but seemed slippery.

One thing I did not like was the smell. It smells oily, to the point that it impregnated the utility room inside the house where I keep my stuff. I had to leave this one in the garage.

The best thing was the price; about $5.00 for a can as big as Texas!!!!

Will try to wax another car this weekend, and if I do it will keep you posted.
