You can plan on buying a new one. These things don't like to be removed.

Pliers, cursing, hacksaws, tin snips, etc etc etc. I've never seen anybody pop an original hoodstar out perfectly. It's probably possible, but only with finesse.

The hood star is held in place with a snap ring and can be removed, without damage, with a good grip and a pair of pliers.

I removed my hoodstar a little while ago. I took off my whole grill assembly first. You will need pliers and patience. There is a cotter pin that holds the spring-loaded hoodstar in place. Once the cotter pin comes out, you're home free. Getting the cotter pin back in is a pain. I forgot how I did it, but you will need to jimmy it around a bunch.

If you remove the grill be sure to align it back on correctly...

serves as great oppurtunity to really clean and polish the grill.

Might even want to paint the "egg crate" greyish grill black.

If you do it while the grill is in place, put a towel over the radiator area in case your pliers slip off the hook. You do not want to smash you hand on the hood latch!
