Removing black belt stains from seats
 

My 1995 E420 has slight black stains on the seat where my crappy dress belt has rubbed against it. it's not a horrible stain, but noticeable.

I tried to remove it using leather cleaner, but nothing happened.

In a previous BMW, I tried removing tough-up paint from the seat with acetone. Removed the paint well - but dye from the seat was removed as well.


Does anyone have a good solution to this problem? my intewrior is in excellent condition, except for this annoying discoloration.

You might try a Mr Clean 'Magic Eraser', as recommended here in another thread. I did, on the driver (leather) seat of the 96 E 320 I recently purchased, and thought the result superior to the leather cleaner I'd already tried. (It costs just a couple of $'s for a two-pack; you simply dampen, squeeze almost dry, and rub gently.) Worth trying, I'd say.

Thanks - I'd never heard of this product before. I'll give it a try.

WD-40 will also remove stains from leather (according to their website).

Make sure that it really is a stain, and not scuffed seat covering material. If it is is in fact a scuff, you will cause even more damage by rubbing it with chemical cleaners.
