Just picked up my CLK 430 and having the time of my life cruising in this bad boy. However, when we were at the dealer, the finance manager (I felt like I was at a user card dealership, but that is another story) did the usual Extended Warranty/Lojack Install/other stuff hard sell.

One of the things he was trying to sell me was this 'A touch of class' protective sealant for the paint/interior/rus inhibitor (no big deal in CA) and undercoat/sound deadener. All for the low, low price of 5 year coverage for $1000. The brand of this is called 'CAL-TEX'.

Now i'm sure I could shop around and find this service slightly cheaper somewhere, but my real question is 'Is this worth it'. They claim that Waxing cars becomes a distant memory with this stuff, and more importantly, they warrant the inside against stains (which might be reason enough with my messy passengers).

ideas/thoughts/comments?

When I purchased my '94, the dealer tossed in the same type of "sealent" called Car-Craft (or something like it). I was pretty leery of it and still do not know what it is, but it seems to work. That was a year ago. It came with a three year warranty provided I used the follow up care package every six months. I have done that and it still looks great. Maybe its all silicon and they will never be able to repaint it,

Used to be something called Ming Coating that dealers pushed. High margin/minimal results. Washed off after 5-6 months. I was also was speaking to dealer about the black paint and ease of scratching...He say Mercedes uses a "soft" paint, easily scratched...I suppose you learn something new every day...though I don't know how true this is.
