The Porter Cable 7424 is the one to get. They work great.

I just received the Meguiar's catalog where they sell their dual action polisher model G100A for 225.95. Is that expensive? Recomendations, please.

Thanks

The meguiars buffer is great. I have one. Make sure you get a good one, but not too good. What I ment by that is the professional ones they use in body shops. Those require experience or you will cause serious damage to your car. The meguiars one is great. A small investment that will pay off in the long run.

In the past, I believe a thread discussed that the Meguires buffer was the PorterCable 7424 with a Meguires label on it. You might check the archives/search on this, as you could save about $100!

The Buffer I have is the exact same buffer my body shop guy uses. Its variable speed, and was designed for polishing. I forget the brand though. It could also be used for construction work, but the one I bought came with the polishing setup. It works great, though be careful with the highest speed hehehe that thing can pull ya if it gets a grip.

Search the archives-I believe toolmarts.com has the porter cable for $93. This comes with one foam pad. You can order the Meguiar's Dual Action backing plate from Meguiar's or carcareonline.com. The backing plate allows you to use velcro-backed pads (nice for quick pad changes for different products) available from Meguiar's or Griot's Garage.

About the Porter Cable and Meguiars buffer this is correct. I saw in a old catalog (about 1995 or so), they were selling the buffer with PorterCable label on it.

I got an inexpensive 10" dual action polisher for Christmas. I think my wife got it at Wallmart for $25.00. Anyhow, it works great! No swirl marks, and it applies waxes and polishes evenly.

I don't expect it to last as long as the Porter Cable, but, I'm very pleased with the results. Unless it craps out after a few uses, I'll stay with the less expensive types.

After all, I don't make my living doing this and at these prices, I can afford to replace it 5 or 6 times before I spend as much as what a "good one" costs.

BTW, I like the foam bonnet, I checked with Meguires and they feel it's personal preference as to which bonnet to use.
