Windshield Marks

I just purchased a 2004 Dodge Stratus. In Texas it gets very hot and the marks the dealers put in the windshield have left an outline. Also the widnshiled looks like it is dirty from stains that will not remove. It looks as if they are baked on by the hot sun. I have used top brand window cleaners and they do not seem to work. Any ideas?

Might try a little paint thinner on a rag.

Its called a clay bar and you can buy it at pepboys or autozone. Use it on your paint first then use it on your glass.

That's the detailing clay.

Actually similiar to the steel wool suggested, but much less aggressive. And it will pull stuff out of any pores etc.

Search for discussions in the detailing thread on clay, same process outlined there. I save the used stuff from the body, just for the glass, and wheels.

Lube, mildly diluted car wash liquid, less diluted than you'd use to wash.
Maybe use less lube for the glass than the body.

I tried the clay and it did not remove the marks. Not sure what to do now.

Go to a marine supply and look for some "ISW" (or other brand) of fine "BRONZE WOOL". Buy some "BAR KEEPERS FRIEND" cleaner & polish at your local super market. It's a powdery cleanser that works well on stainless steel, glass cooktops, porcelain, etc. Make a paste with h2o or glass cleaner and give it a try. If you use steel wool with too much elbow grease you may find some fine scratches. Good luck!

Bronze wool is the best. With the steel wool you are going to get the particles that will come off of the pad and rust. Wherever this happens you will have another problem; getting rid of the rust marks. This will not happen with the bronze wool. I have been using this for about 10 years and was given this tip from a body shop owner who does nothing but high end cars, Try it----you'll like it.

to use clay bar correctly, you need to be working on a somewhat clean surface so you should wash your car beforehand. then spray lubricant or quik detailer on the clay and the paint. then rub the clay lightly over the paint over and over until it becomes smooth. you feel that rough stuff? thats gunk that has built up on your car. do that to your entire car ( not sure if it works well on metal. im positive don't use it on aluminum ) so do it on your paint and your windows.

to polish your windshield , if you already have a rotary buffer , use Meguiars #4 Heavy Cut Cleaner on it. make sure you don't use an orbital buffer, that won't work at all. this will remove the gunk on the windshield and will not remove any of the actual windshield.

this is faster than using steel/bronze wool and you won't end up being as tired!

I hate to say this, but, you may need a glass shop to polish it for you.
Sometimes the adhesive gets into the pores of the glass and nothing will remove it.
Try a glass polish by hand like Sonus Glass and chrome polish
