Does anyone have a favorite way of getting tree sap off? My car is covered in the stuff.

Warm water & carwash soap, or a good rub with " Quick Detailer : ( Mfg. of your choice ) should do it. ;)

What manny said, also, ive had luck with using clay this year for sap.

Ya I found with just a normal car wash of mine it comes all off.

Wax the paint to make things come off easily.

other remedies

I've used a product that proctor and gamble made called "Jubilee"...it was designed for home use, but essentially it's a petroleum based "dissolver" that has never done the slightest bit of damage to any paint on any car I've ever owned... the problem? Finding the stuff!

Alternatively, for sap and tar, there's a non-car product called "goof off" that does not do any damage to pain surfaces and completely dissolves hardened organic stuff...

best of luck... like the others sad, a good wax every 6 months should really help clean ups!

take care
Steve

White Kerosene and a rag followed by a good wash.

It may depend on the species of tree that is causing the problem. I had this problem with Scotch Pine sap, and tried everything. The only thing that worked in my case was alcohol (rubbing or denatured) in a small amount on a rag. No paint damage. It must be noted that this particular car I was working on wasn't mine, and wasn't wax-protected nearly as much as I like to keep my cars. With a more wax-protected car, the other methods recommended by others above probably will work just fine.

Thanks,
Richard

Try a little turpentine on a soft towel or cloth. Follow with a wash, some polish, and your favorite wax. :sun_smile

I may be wrong but I think Jubilee was made by SC Johnson! of Racine WI.

The best that I have tried so far is the bug and tar remover from NAPA. Found an old can of it in the garage while fighting some spruce sap and it was outstanding.

For me, alcohol worked but was very slow. Citrus cleaner worked well, Turtle wax remover was very slow.

Now, I have a can of turpentine and another of kerosene. Going to try them because they are cheaper than commercial products. Hope they work as well.

You are correct!!! Ah, memories... I used the last drop a few years back - it's probably being sold under a "not so 50's" name!
