I went to a MB dealer and asked if the hinged center console which was in the later 124's could be retrofitted into my '87 300E.He called MB and they were non-committal.Could anyone please give info regarding this?If this could be done, what part #s should I order, or can I get used parts, or atfermarket parts? Its just that I find the open center console rather ugly and dated.

Though I have not done the specific research, when checking on this sort of thing in the past it becomes an issue of "should it be done" vs "can it be done". You could probably do it with enough parts research, money, and headache. However, it would most likely be cost prohibitive. Sorry I can't offer better news.
Hope this helps, Lee |

There is a catalog available from http://www.precisionauto.com that lists a wood (burl or zebrano) box with lid that is custom made for each model MB to fit in the empty open area and fit under the armrest. It is expensive - $200 in zebrano and something more in burlwood if I recall - but likely less expensive than trying to retrofit the 95 hinged console. BTW, my neighbor has a 94 300E, and his wife has commented that she wishes she had a nice usable open space between the seats rather than a "useless" compartment. Oh well!

I do not know for sure about the type of hinged center console you are talking about (I have seen some pics on the HACK-fotopage and noticed that they are not similar to the ones in europe) but... In europe we have two different parts to create the center front armrests for the W124. One part is an armrest only and is mounted to the right-side of the left seats' back rest and one part is screwed in the normal open space (of the console) between the front chairs. Both parts can be added to any of the W124 models without any problems and both parts can be ordered at the Benz dealer. If you are curios about these parts, I can post a picture of these parts (armrest/console box). In the Netherlands the armrest would cost about $100-150 and the box underneath that armrest would cost a little less I think... greetingz,

I have this burlbox on my 190e and thought it was standard equipment as it matches the dash, glovebox, gearshift lever and door trim.

Does the console box that Precision sells cover the entire carpeted area on the console? Anyone have any pics of this installed in a 124?

emr50,
I thought I would have better pictures, but I had not. The arm rest in the pictures below can be put up or down and is attached to the back rest of the left seat. The box below is mounted in the open space of the center console and fits every possible W124 console. There is a wood finish on top of the lid (the lid has to be shoved backwards) and there is a possibility to lock the box. I will take some additional pictures and send it to you by mail next tuesday (if that is OK with you...). greetingz,
