How to clean rusty threads? 1982 300D
Okay, so I have a fairly clean engine bay in my 1982 300D.
However, there are some surface rust areas here and there. I would like to start by going through and replacing rusty bolts, etc. This brings up a question. How do you get rid of the rust on a rusty thread without degrading the thread? Thanks, Pete. |
If you have a benchgrinder with a brass wirewheel, that should do it. ;)

Even a hand fine wire brush, brass prefered, will do it.
Some prevention in the future too. A drop of Oil, a dab of Grease, or Thread lock where appropraite keeps them from getting that way. "Clean Threads Torque Correct", true 35 years ago in shop class, true today !! |
Thanks, guys.
