De-Tagging the benz
 

If you take the 300sd and turbo diesel metal things off the car is there holes behind it or just glue? do I need to repaint the trunk? I plan on leaving the star though since it is a benz

It's called de-badging. ;)
Not sure about your vintage car, but on most newer cars they are just stick-on ( double-sided tape ).
If that's the case, take some fishing line, get behind the letters and start " sawing " up & down.
After you get the letters off, you can clean up the tape residue with some WD-40, then polish & wax.

With your year and model, you'll have to fill in some holes and repaint after you remove the badges.

does anyone know anything about the trunk leaking or have history with it? I have a feeling its the back window but i'm not sure. Does anyone know the cost of putting new weather stripping on it?

If you've got a water leak back there, you either have a bad rear window gasket, or bad trunk weatherstripping, perhaps bad tail light gaskets.

okay man i'll check it out, i should probably remove the badges and patch them up, the car would look good without them i think

I don't like debadging.....but thats a personal subject...its your car so whatever floats your boat.

guys, I work in a high-end body shop, and one thing you have to keep in mind on debadging is that on some colors, and depending on the age of the car, there will be a shadow left by the badge...the rest of the paint faded just a hair so you may still see the badge outline in certain light

The thing I see all the time is a guy with an S320 asking me to replace the emblems with S500 or God forbid, S600 emblems. The BMW guys with 745's suddenly becoming 750's and 760's are almost beyond belief. I think it'd be more fun to have a hotrod S-class and badge it as a 300 diesel and really keep everyone guessing.

Can I ask why do people want to remove the badges from their cars?

What point is there to doing this??

I presume it's for a custom look. I also have people wanting me to fill the hood ornament hole and "shave" the ornament. Oddly enough some people don't like to look at the 3 pointed star leading them down the road.

I definately don't like MB's without hood stars. I also love my badging, being it says "Turbo Diesel". It seems to raise images of big dodge pickups in peoples minds......"Don't mess with him, he'll spit smoke on ya!"

A. Because I'm sick & tired of ruining my sponges, etc. on the useless lettering.
B. Because you don't have to work around all this useless clutter when you're waxing/polishing the car.
C. In Europe, you can order most new cars with the " Badge-delete" option. ;)

if you want to run around your town with no plates go for it.. ;) IMHO i like my badges.. turbodiesel just screams i will blow a nice cloud if you tailgate me
