New vs Old MB Star Emblem

Gentelmen

As you can see in the attached photo my star emblem is faded. I recently purchased a new one from Fast Lane shown above the faded one in the picture. The new one looks good but is slightly different as evidenced by the narrower unpainted star.

To maintain originallity, I would like to either get an NOS old style emblem or have my old one reconditioned.

Please let me know if you know where I can buy an old style one or where I might be able to have my old one reconditioed.

Thank You
John Roncallo

I replaced mine about a year ago, bought the part from my local dealer. The new emblem looked exactly like the old one, but brand new. Try your dealer. That fastlane emblem looks odd, the wreaths are slightly more angular, and the font reading Mercedes-Benz seems slightly off in size. Must be an aftermarket part, rather than an MB OE item.

Bought a hood emblem from Performance Products a couple of years ago for the TE. 2 years and it went to crap. Definately not M-B quality.

I have one I bought from a fellow on Ebay... NOS with part # A107 880 00 88
with the original packaging and such. It looks identical to the one on my 1988 560Sl hood. Being aware of the new design, and knock-offs being peddled, I emailed the seller, who sent me close photos of the item. I think I paid about $30.00 for it, to replace my worn and faded when I have the bonnet fixed (someone keyed it some time back).

Point is... If you shop carefully, an NOS can be found.

Good Luck!
