Real neat deal! Looks great but more important, how does it feel when you drive? What will be your final cost?

I chose the opposite route, the "where did that come from" look.

Mine came out of a saab as when I bought the car (for $500) the seats were coming apart and rotten horsehair was moving through the cab. I love saab seats despite how out of place they look in Mercedes. Unlike the giant easy chairs (albeit one uncomfortable chair) the saab seats have much more support and are much warmer in the winter (heated).

Besides, purple goes with 1970's orange, right?

I have decided

I have decided to take out my mint condition MB-TEX seats and replace both the front and rear with seats from a 2002 Lexus LS430. I have a 2002 Lexus LS430 Ultra Luxury Ed. and the seats in that car are phenomenal and I measured them and I think they will fit!! Now all I have to do is to find some seats from eBay and hopefully I will find a good price. I have till summer to find them. I want the ivory colored with the perforated leather. For those of you who are interested, Look in eBay for an "ultra luxury edition" under Lexus.

No, I wouldn't. Putting the front seats in wasn't too bad, but I did quite a bit of headscratching before doing it. I've been designing machinery for over 20 years and constantly tinkering with machines for over 40. But I wouldn't try to change the rear seats with something from a different make. The rear seats are supported by the chassis and their structure is integral to it. Plus, the shape of the door opening and many other factors make the necessary seat shape quite different for each vehicle.

I'm sorry fellow MB dudes. I appreciate the work behind doing a seat swap, but those seats look ridiculous in an M-B.

I just read where someone took out his drivers seat and took it to a furniture reupholsturer to be redone.
That makes alot more sense IMHO....

well, this thread was started to share information between those who DO choose to modify their cars. Personally, I wrestled for some time with the original seats-they looked OK, but they were uncomfortable. I chose an option that worked for me, including a level of color/style matching that was acceptable to me. Most people that see the car think the seats are pretty nice, but i really don't care. As a result of the seat change and a few other sedate but carefully chosen modifications, I'll be driving this car far longer than you'll be driving yours on WVO. To each his own. Happy new year!

I didn't mean to come off in a negative way about changing seats. It IS just my opinion that it looks out of place with a different seat. And I appreciate the effort of doing it and the choice to have a more comfortable seat for your big ol' butt. I also thought adding the idea of using a reupholsterer might be something for some to consider.
But Pete, after your M-B bites the big one maybe you'll let me know and I'll make you an offer for your bimmer seats....ha ha (:

Ooo, rawwrr, saucer of milk, table two. WVO vs Aftermarket seats! Rumble at midnight!

Come on guys, a few mods here, a few mods there, the cars will run fine. WVO doesn't hurt engines when done right (seriously. It doesn't.) and no matter how a car looks, it has to fit right with your butt and back, so whatever you have to do to protect that is A-OK. Lets all just get along. Besides, my grandpa who refuses to use any non-mb part or fluid and has been taking his 77 240D to the dealer since it rolled off the showroom floor would call us all a bunch of dirty rotten penny pinchers who soil our cars with any non MB parts whatsoever. Under him, we're all the same.

peace,
sam

I think re-padding and properly beefing up a stock merc seat would help a lot. A near perfect w126 body seat still doesn't have enough support to keep me happy on long trips.

Still want heated seats hehe

Hi, I did the aftermarket swap & I love them. I'm going to be getting them recovered in the appropriate colored leather. Definately gives me more of a performance feel to the car now. And it looks cool. Here's a pic of them just black. They're out now getting recovered .
Regards,
Joe

I just picked up a pair of front seats on ebay from a `91 420 SEL to put in
my `88 560. They're from a low-mileage car, have been sheepskinned and the springs are supposed to be in pretty good shape. The seller does a lot of MB parts and has a 100% feedback rating.

I think the seats MB went to with the `90 model look more modern than the design on my car and supposedly they're are some comfort improvements as well.

I was outbid on the rear seat and door panels. My back seat cushions and springs are in good shape so I'll just have them recovered to match the front seats. My door panels are in pretty good shape and I can just get new leather inserts if I want the all-around 91 look but my current door panels will probably look fine with the new seats.

Its not just Mercedes, but to me, I think that most any car that I am familiar with would just seem strange without the original style seating. Personally, if I had a 95' Mercedes with like new seats, I would not change them, unless they were simply uncomfortable and in that case, I would probably sell the car.

My 85' Mercedes has the "MB-Tex" seats and I have found them to be very comfortable and I have owned a lot of cars in the past. I really do not have the "poor spring" issue (yet) with my seats that a lot of the older Mercedes have and I am sure they are original. I think that the PO of my car may have been a lightweight person. I went ahead and installed seat covers on my seats, but I HATE them, because they slide all over the place.

My 90' Lexus LS400 on the other hand had uncomfortable seats. After about an hour of driving, my back would have discomfort. So far, I have not experienced that with the Mercedes.
