idiotic hood star mounting question! w116 300sd

heh, got my hood star , brand new off ebay, lookde at it, and i can't figure out how to mount it, its like this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mercedes-Hood-star-kit-W116-450SE-300SD-280SE-6-9-grill_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33654QQitemZ8026108661QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
the little brass round goober seems as though it'd be ao small it'd fit right through the little double-d shape hole in my grill, but the star is here, and my car is a few miles away, but do i need some kind of clip, or washer, did i buy the wrong star, or is my memory so far off that i'm forgetting how big the hole is compared to the mount?
so, how's this thing go on there? i put the whole star together, but something doesn't seem right!
thanks guys.

The star is held in by a spring into its larger holder which is held in my a flat place with a big and small hole inside the grill. You need to remove the inner plate by sliding the securing plate sideways then comes the fun part of prying the spring into position and you most likely also have to remove the old part by prying that spring out.

Good luck, I only did it once and it took about an hour to get the spring right but then again I just despise springs of any kind.

Pete

i'm thinking ym car is missing the inner plate, because (i looked at it today) the grille is the only thing there, a little hole in the top center like 2 D's placed back to back, with nothing underneath, just the grille, so i'm going to have to go to a junkyard and get one, i saw one a while ago that someone just snapped the star off, and left all the rest, so maybe that'll work, thanks a lot pete.
