Cleaned the wood trim with plastic polish

I cleaned all the wood on my 126 today using Meguires plastic cleaner,
Mother's plastic polish and then waxed them with Carnuba wax as I read on
a few threads here. A quick and easy job.

The doors, dash and climate control area look really good. The ash tray
is faded on top but when you look at the bottom half you get an idea how
good the burlwood looked when the car was new.

The shift area piece has some cracks in the clear, it really shined up but that
just makes the cracks stand out a bit more. I might have it refinished at some
point.

Prior to this the trim looked to me like fake woodgrain plastic. Now it looks
great.

Glad to hear you are happy with the results!!!!

nothing cuts through the haze of dirt and oxodization on the surface of the wood better than the clear plastic polish... even reduces scratches in the process.

Pledge is designed to seep in and clean and polish wood. But MB covers
the wood trim with a sheer coat of polyurethane or something along those
lines. So a plastic cleaner works better.

If your trim is really faded, you can strip and refinish it but that's a pretty
big job. There's an article in the Detailing DIY section on it.

Euro's are on my list. Wheels first, though.

Nate, your 300 looks great. Is that original paint?

Thanks! The paint is original for the most part, I just had some body work done- a neighbor of mine backed into the driver side doors. So those were replaced and finished. While the car was at the shop I had the pin-stripes replaced, wheels repainted, seats re-sprung, weather stipping replaced, dent pro'd all the dings out, etc etc etc... the list goes on.

But yes, aside from the ds doors, the paint is original. Its been a CA car garaged all its life, which has really preserved the finish of the paint.

She gets washed and detailed once a week, and waxed at least once a month. I have been using Meguiars NXT line products since they were introduced and havent looked back. I am getting some more photos together of the car and will be posting a thread in the diesel forum soon, so keep an eye out for more pics and info on the restoration!

So what did that trip to the body shop set you back?

My car's PO had it repainted around 1999 by Maaco and decided not to
spend money on much prep work. It looks decent from six feet away but
has orange peel, chipping and bad overspray on the roof near the drainage
channels.

I'd like to get it repainted, de-dinged, etc. I was going to have my wheels
powder coated but think I'm going to go with replica 8-hole rims instead. I
like the look and think they'll be easier to clean than the 15-hole rims.

I'm putting a new stereo in next week and Euro headlights and new OEM
floormats are on the way. Little by little...
