Bad Leather
looking at a 83 300TD wagon, the milage shows less than 100K, however both front seats look like they have 3-400K! The seats are just ragged....their condition just does not jive with the overall condition of the car.
My question......are MB leather seats prone to falling apart like this? I know they did not receive the TLC they should have, but the leather just appears to have been crap to start with...yeah, I know, 23 year car, harsh Texas sun...it just makes me question the TRUE MILAGE of this car. |
The interiors are very good quality. Like anything it has to be maintained.

leather or MB tex?
Leather gets cracks, MB gets worn out from fat people in jeans (sandpaper to seats) Pics? ~Nate |
it is leather and it is shreaded! talked to a cowboy in town that owns a leather shop...he thinks he can sew/glue a new bottom on top of the old one....it would be made of a much thicker "saddle skirting" leather and look like a piece of brown leather, won't even try to match the Palamino color! Crude but effective and about 100 bucks vs $960 for new leather front seat cover....reckon I'll have to cowboy up on the seats!

just shop around and look for some in junkyards .. that havent been abused by fatties.. im amazed my car with 260k and the seat wasnt all abused looking except for a rip where your left hip is.. im guessing from someone with a beeper getting in and out to use the nearest payphone

One other thing you can consider is to have the upholstery redone. No rule that it has to be done in MB Tex or Leather unless you are entering a car competition. A good Hispanic run upholstery shop could fix you up for probably 5 bills - God I miss Texas:mad:

TX76513....funny you should mention this...yesterday I was told to go to Pena's in San Antonio and I may just check 'em out! Texas is still here, we'll leave the light on if you're comin' back!
