peeling clear coat

Hello, I don't post in this section often, but I have a 300sd with burgundy paint. The paint is in good condition all around except for the roof. The clear coat is coming of in big flakes. If I were to sand the rest of the clear coat, is there any way I could recoat it myself?

If you are speaking of a small area you could probably feather some in. A larger area would be tough. By tough I mean just taking the clear coat off without getting into the actual paint. I would suspect that this is not the original Benz (factory) paint job that is flaking off. The image below is to reference the small tollerances between clear coat and paint.
