Paint questions...
First off, I am very impressed with MB paint! The old wagon is shinning up like a new penny....except for the roof, which I haven't even touched and from all appearances, niether has anyone else in last 10 years. I can see why, with all the roof rack stuff in the way, it's gonna be a PITA.
It has the "seems to be normal" clearcoat "whiteout spots", but it also has what looks like maybe tree sap or some sorta chemical spots. These spots look wind blown, like something got on the roof and was then blown towards the back of the car. Is there a product I may try to remove these spots BEFORE I resort to heavy duty compounding?[/I] Compounded one small spot and quickly got down to a white base coat. Is there a source for MB Seafoam Green touch-up paint? What color are Bunt Pan wheels supposed to be? Thanks

Clearcoat
Once you have had the clearcoat go there is not much you can do except repaint the top which is not all that bad. If, not you can make it look ok with a lot of elbow grease but it will come back soon.

With compound, I'm punching through to a white "basecoat" pretty quick...that might be as good as it's gonna get.
I'm actually thinking of having the roof painted white reason being it would be cooler in this scalding Texas heat. A two-toned MB wagon.....would go good with my Palamino, tan, and faded to pink interior.

If you haven't tried using clay on your car, please consider it! It will remove any stains, tree sap etc. Then you polish/wax.
I got on the paintscratch site http://www.paintscratch.com and searched for your 1983 green paint - it was not seafoam green. My '87 560SL is seafoam green. Go on the site and search for your color and code. |

roncor.....went to paintscratch and did not see my color. You may well be right about the color, I was told it was Seafoam Green...it is a blue-green color.
Now, can you tell where to look for the paint code on the car? Thanks.

It's called Petrol Green Metallic by the factory, paint code 877. Go to your local dealer are order it, its the only way to get the exact match. It comes with a bottle of clear coat touch up as well.

Mayonnaise will take out tree sap. If you scrape the hard stuff off, it will get the residue out that water can't wash away.
This is my second post about mayonnaise in two days. What a condiment!

Tree sap remover
There is a product that you can purchase at "Dollar Tree" stores only. It is called "Awesome" and it will melt that tree sap instantly.
