Exclamation 1986 500SEL Euro Cluster restoration

i was finally able to finish restoring my instrument cluster back to it's euro glory. i recalibrated the odometer to reflect my original U.S. mileage. had to buy several used clusters from ebay to get the nice orange needles see below links for old auctions spent more than i wanted to , but i needed the nice needles my old ones were sofaded they were almost white, but now it is almost done. i will need to get the icons for the right side, this car didn't have an airbag or check engine light. i also noted that with the euro speedometer when the emergency flashers or turnsignals are on there isn't the audible flasher click, kind of nice i found that really bothersome at long lights. is there anyone else in the U.S. that has the km/h speedometer?
i have several clusters complete and for parts, let me know if anyone needs any parts, or complete units.

Thumbs up

I've always been curious... what's the deal with the slash lines between 50 and 60kph?

Probably they same type of reason some US cars of the era had 55mph marked specifically. It could be a generic in-town recommended speed limit.

marks on spedo

I "think" its the maximum speeds for certain gears. Its kind of pointless though in US edition cars because most of them are equipped with automatics. The I II and III marks correspond to maximum speeds for the gears. Does anyone know for certain? It would be nice to know

Clusters and Clock faces

My Cluster is faded and rather well aged since I have a 1982 vintage car.... I kind of like the look as it reminds me of an old clock face.... Eventually if I have a failure in there I will have to go in and make a repair.... I may do some cleaning and minor painting but I kind of like the "patina" that the cluster has developed over the years..... Cars are kind of funny because with any other collectable because cleaning and painting them does not kill their value like it would with an antique piece of furniture or clock.... A friend of mine who does clock repairs put a set of clock hands in his ultrasonic cleaner and discovered they were gold rather than brass and became rather shiny.... The owner of the clock was not very happy with the clean hands.....

That is correct. At WOT that is where my 560SL will shift, which also happens to coincide with redline. But the original poster who wrote about the hashed lines between 50 and 60 was not writing about shift markers. These are something else, but I have no idea.
