Hi

I am looking for better product for caring my MB-Tex for my 1988 W124 260E. Presently, I am using Armor All, but after reading from this forum, looks like Armor All is not so good after all.

I have tried looking for Vinylex, but this product is not available in Malaysia. However, I have found Meguiar's Natural Shine Vinyl & Rubber Protectant. Is this Meguiar's product good for caring MB-Tex?

Meantime, I had accidently dropped some super glue on my interior door panel. I have tried paint thinner to remove the glue but failed. Read the instruction on the super glue, "if in contact with skin, remove using acetone." Any advise for good source for acetone?

Thanks in advance.

Lim

super glue remover?

I think you will find that fingernail polish remover will do the trick. You should read the label to confirm. I do not know if it will do any damage to the underlying MB-Tex so be careful and test a small area first. Good luck.

I guess I'm the odd man out; for My 1987 W124 with MBTex interior has had nothing but ArmourAll used on it.
My interior is as new. No tears or pulled seams.
To maintain your fabric you must keep it clean. Wash with a mild soap and water and especially clean deep in the sown seams. This preserves the thread.
When the fabric is clean and dry apply any good vinyl conditioner.
As I said, 13 years with ArmourAll.

Acetone is real tough on plastics - it can soften, melt, discolor, and pucker many plastic materials. I would try it in an inconspicuous area first! The makers of Super Glue have a removal product as well. I searched and found this site http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/chem99/chem99595.htm
which indicates that super glue removal products may also damage car vinyl! You may be stuck between choosing between a super glue stain or a faded spot, or replacing the panel, or installing a fold down cup holder over the area (or MB "wreath" badge, Monogram initials, etc.). If you find a good alternative, let us know!

Also, I have used both the Mequires and the Vinylex - they are both good.

How have you gone with the super-glue. Lim?

And are you sticking with AmourAll or made a switch to Meguiar?

Thanks guys for your wisdom.

Donald - I have been using ArmorAll (which is easily available in Malaysia) all this while, and until recently, I came across reading about ArmorAll is damaging to vinyl. Our weather is very humid and hot (too much sunshine )all year round.

Can I safely say that Armor All has served you well, Donald? Are you still using ArmorAll.

JCE - Thanks for your insight on super glue remover.

ymsin - my fellow comrade. Luckily the "elephant glue" is not very visible/noticeable on my door panel, near to the driver's door handle. Still have not remove it. I am still using ArmorAll. Still have no time to go to 1-Utama to buy the Meguiar's Vinyl care. I am actually more keen on Vinylex, but it is currently only avail in Singapore.

Regards
Lim

Lim, I dont know if this works for superglue stains, but it has worked for many other stubborn stains (one good example is the dried glue stain left behind when you debadge). This is no other than we what know as the "Axe Brand Oil". Heard of it? People use it for headaches and tummy aches, but it works on many stains too. I even use it as an impromptu engine-degreaser every now and then. Its dirt cheap, and application is easy. No mess and non-toxic.

By the way, is Vinylex best for MB-tex and is available in Singapore??? Hmmm......I've gotta check this out!

I use Armourall on my door panel, door handles, dashboard, pillars, and all other areas where there is not much human contact. Reason being I find Armourall pretty oily, although I guess its a good moisturizer, especially for our cars under the tropical sun. I also use Armourall for tire shine and other exterior rubber and plastics, very effective! No wonder they call it "Armour All", hehe...

Currently I use Turtlewax and AutoGlym on my MB-tex....

Hi Meryn

It is nice to know that the old Chinese "Air Oil" could also cure car's headache

Well, from most of the posts for MB-Tex and Vinyl care, the best products is still Vinylex. Please contact Alan of MaxCorp in Singapore, Fax: 65-235-2357, Phone: 65-235-2359, email: alanleogomez@hotmail.com

I spoken to him once, and he has just started this Vinylex (or Lexol) business. The price for the Vinylex 16oz is S$21.80

Meryvn, may be you can assist me in picking up some Vinylex and send over to me when you are in Malaysia.

Thanks for your tips, and I will try the "Air Oil" this evening.

Sooper Dooper Gluuu

Lim, here's hoping you haven't used Acetone to remove the Super Glue from Your MB/Tex material.
Super Glue is a "Cyanoacrylate" and it likes to adhere to most anything.
It is brittle with no ductility in the cured state.
What caused it to cure on the seat surface?
It must be white and very brittle on the surface.
Try scrapping or light sanding not to go to the seat surface.
If it comes off then apply one of the many vinyl protecters and the damaged spot may blend right in.
Here's wishing you luck;

Lim,

I hate to disappoint you, but I do not think I'll be heading into Malaysin in the near future. But in the event that I do, I will drop you a note.

Meanwhile, I read that Meguiar's not too bad, and that Zaino Bros is even better (not so sure about vinyl though)! Check the range of showroom car waxes, polish and leather care at http://www.zainobros.com.

Did the "Air Oil" work?

dont worry MB tex is virtually indestructible. Dont use armor all, its not that great, try meguiars vinyl cleaner and protectants.

From what I noticed, when it comes to MB tex, you really dont need protectants etc like you do with leather. MB tex doesnt crack or fad as easily as leather.

Lim, here I am again the oddman out.
Even though M/B Tex is uneffected when not serviced, I feel much better washing it and the threaded seams and appling a protctive dressing.
I use ArmourAll and have for 13 years!!!

Thanks guys for your inputs.

I have not use acetone to remove the spill of super glue yet. I have seen Loctite's glue remover, and very temptedto use it on the spill. Maybe I should try El Cheapo's way to light sanding/scrap it first this weekend.

Meryvn, the "air oil" did not work!!

Last weekend I was in Thailand, and I have found 3m's Refresh - Premium Vinyl Protector & Air Fresher. I bought it for US$10 (240g-8.5oz) Any one tried this product before?? I will try using it on my MB-Tex this weekend.

Lim - No wonder the silence. How is your 260E faring? Hope the 3M & El Cheapo's way treating your gluey problem?

Do let us know how it went.
