What wax and polish(if any) should be used on a white single stage painted car?

I wan't to wax the BMW that I mentioned that I just picked up. The car is whilte and has sitten outside for a year. It seems to have some mold spots on the decklid, roof and hood. I heard that I had to be very careful with a non-clear coated finish as the any rubbing would go right thorugh the paint. This was never an issue on my SL, as it was spotless from the time I drove it home. With this type of paint, do, really just need to do what I can with wax or, is a polsih an okay thing to use? I cringe at the idea of removing a layor of paint.

I was tempted to use the Meguiars Three step system on the BMW, but I don't want to eat through the paint. I remember at one point waxing an old Black Volvo that I had and finding just that made the black color rub off onto the cloth.

Thanks for any information, Nick

if the paint's too thin to stand up to the 3-step, you're going to lose it anyway.

Okay, but is a three step system proper to use on a single state paintjob? Thanks again Nick.

nh500sl, use paint cleaning clay followed by a polish and a high quality carnuba wax. Our Mercedes have single stage paint and that's the 3-step process I use on the one car that is not garaged. Occasionally I use the cleaning clay on our other cars if the finish is other than silky smooth due to surface contaminants.

Use the three step system but add a fourth step to really make it work, clay bar it after you wash.

And replace the liquid wax with paste NXT, lasts longer and goes on real fast.

If you don't really want to wax the paint often Griots has a paint sealent that is good for a year. Great for that daily driver you don't have time to realy clean but want to keep looking decent.

Griots also has some sweet buffing and paint care systems.

Meguiar's 3 step system is suited fine for single stage paint. Remember that your clear coat is simply paint without the pigment.

Their step one Paint Cleaner is a chemical cleaner, so it doesn't reduce the thickness of the paint. If you rub it between your fingers, you will feel no abrasives. It will feel like hand lotion.

White paint, by the way, is the hardest of all the paint colors. It is very hard to remove scratches and oxidation off of white paint.
