Paul, I do not see a spider web effect on the paint. What I do have is white flecks on the front of the hood and sides of the grill. Are these bugs? A few of them have a raised texture and some have been soothed but they are still white. On the top of the trunk there is one spot of pine tar and that is true on the roof as well. There are light small scratches on top of the trunk and a few on the hood. The detailer said that he could not remove them without damaging the clear coat. He said Mercedes uses a very thin clear coat. Does anyone know if that is true? Will Scratch X damage the clear coat?

I have the feeling that your paint has too many defects all over, particularly spider web effect, all over the car. Scratch X will do the job, but it will take all day, at least 8 hours of work, and at the end of the day, your arm / elbow / shoulder will hurt like never before.
The white flecks show up where your paint is chipped away. The white is either the primer showing through and / or built-up wax in the crevice.

Whenever you use a paint cleaner and a buffer to remove scratches, you are reducing the thickness of the clear coat. Sometimes scratches are so deep that they aren't worth removing because you will go through the entire clearcoat. I can't tell without actually looking at your paint and trying to remove the defect.

I don't think what your detailer says about the thickness of the clearcoat. Mercedes' clearcoat is likely as think as any other manufacturers paint.

Believe it or not, the thickness of the clearcoat is about as think as a sheet of photocopy paper, like you'd use in your printer.

Scratch X will not damage your clearcoat. It is not an agressive product.

I have so many issues with my paint, like a bit of fading and swirl marks, I think i will just pay the 150 to get it done professionally. But I do have an orbital buffer at home 10" with mircro fiber pads. Hmmmm.

Getting out the scratches
I have so many issues with my paint, like a bit of fading and swirl marks, I think i will just pay the 150 to get it done professionally.

I just got my C280 back from a great detailer that was found through this site and it looks FANTASTIC! He was able to remove all the stroke marks from the other detailer and all the pine tar. The color is rich and deep! The shine looks better than new. Not all the damage from tree debris came out but if you have that much damage I highly recommend finding a great detailer and getting it done professionally the first time. I am thrilled with the results! Good Luck and thanks guys for helping me out!
