Back to cats... I have two indoor cats and at leat two ourdoor cats. The indoor ones are pampered princesses that my wife brought back from Tajikistan (she was in the embassy there) They get all over everythign and totally mess up the house. She LOVES them or I would have booted them outside long ago. They do have one redeeming feature, they have learned to hunt and will absolutely kill anything thay gets past the outdoor cats into the house. They have killed chipmunks, mice, squirrels, etc.

I like my outdoor cats. They are just happy to get a warm place to hang out (my shed) and get fed. They keep down the vermin and are very affectionate. If they want to walk on the hood of a car, that's OK with me, they could all use a paint job anyway

I have used the water bottle method on the two princesses to keep them off the computer (nice and warm) fill the bottle with ICE water the colder the better and aim for the face. Works like a charm...

Somebody else told me about spraying them when they get on the furniture or the kitchen counter. So far, I haven't seen any evidence that it is working with my new cat. Apparently, he's as hard-headed as I am . . . .

* Speaking of detailing, my 13lb grey tabby Sam likes to get up on my MB coupe, particularly on his way to the top storage shelves against the garage walls. I bought a roll of that woven, rubberized kitchen shelf liner for $4 or so and roll it out on the top of the coupe (unlike a car cover, the runner only takes a few seconds), starting at mid windshield, over the top and down part of the rear window. His take-offs and landings used to put fine scratches in the clear coat but not anymore. The rubberized pad helps him control his take-offs and landings (the slick finish was a slippery landing and he tended to dig in).
* Speaking of cats, has anyone seen an ASHERA? It's a domesticated 30lb mix of several cat breeds, most noteably the asian leopard and the african serval(?). Gorgeous animal. Reports say that it likes to walk on a leash (here doggy, doggy, wanna play). Doubt that a rubber runner would save my car finish from one of those. But then he'd probably jump the 6 ft straight to the shelf without stopping on the car.

We had a cat that used to jump on the car - knew he wasn't supposed to be there because any time someone went into the garage and he was on the car, he would take off like a ...scalded cat? Before I could solve the problem, a coyote got him .

Let me know if any of the above work. (I also thought about grounding a charged model T coil against the car, but figured some morning I would forget about it and put myself into ventricular fib.)
I like your Coyote solution....Perhaps I'll give that one a whirl sometime..

* Da Hawaiian, we may just be a party of two, but cats really are kool. As any cat admirer knows, though, you have to be a more careful, subtle observer to learn how to deal with them (and love them). Where a dog, even in mid-crap, can be easily convinced to go fetch a stick, a cat will ignore you until it suits his needs. But if you've studied him a bit you can come up with a plan to motivate him (and protect your paint job). For those who are thinking that I don't like dogs, nothing could be further from the truth. My first love affair was a little spaniel when I was 10. And violence of any kind toward animals is not only not an option, it demeans the fact that we've got the big brain.
* I need to correct something I wrote about the Ashera. It's not part asian leopard, it's part asian leopard CAT. Big difference. A handling mistake with a 30lb cat whose relative was a leopard, even one raised from a kitten, would likely be painful (but it certainly would teach observation skills!). I know this post was way off the subject (whatever that was) and I'll try to keep it to MB topics in the future.

I made some "Cat Shields" to keep the cats from jumping up on the car or SUV, using some easy to find materials. I used some PVC pipes, plastic sheets, string, and pulleys to form a shield to keep the cats off our cars.
Now we can keep our cars clean with no paw tracks.
Of course this only works if your vehicle is parked in the same location of a garage. It has worked for us over 10 years now. (Our outdoor cats have access to the garage through a cat door).
(you can PM me for plans)

I like your solution to the cats on cars problem and would like your plan for a cover explained more fully.

Thanks!
