Rubber Bumper End Covers

Does anyone know any tricks to restore the rubber bumper end covers on a 123 model. I know the peanut oil trick but am looking for something more permanent. I have to remove them soon to paint the car and I would like to get them back to original type look. If there is no solution I will buy new ones but they are quite pricey. Thanks

I've had good luck with Mothers Back to Black. There are many good products out there for rubber restoration.

Back to Black is amazing, but the effect doesn't last forever, too bad!

I have never heard of "Mother's Back to Black" Where is the stuff sold?

Forever Black Bumper & Trim dye

I've tried back to black and black again. Neither holds up to water and washing.

Forever Black Bumper & Trim dye is the closest you'll get to repainting.

I use Mothers back to black, and to give it a nice shine I use Meguiars vinyl and rubber detailer. After I Use both these products I swear my rubbers look brand new and the shine will last for about 3weeks.

Forever black is great

This stuff is a dye so it will outperform the other non-dye based products. It comes in a gel form and easy to apply and lasts a really long time. I use it to restore and back to black on a yearly basis for maintenance.

I'm still futzing around with the black rubber. Peanut oil worked but made a mess. Have searched high and low for Back to Black, found it online but shipping was more than the product. Was looking at WalMart, no gotty...but I needed some new new flipflops so I headed toward the shoe dept. Spotty this Kiwi Scuff Cover, black color. Well, black is black, and 2 bucks, what the heck. I tried it on my black rubber trim.

Easy to apply, nice shiny black finish that looks good...so far anyway.

You can buy Mothers back to black in Walmart, and autozone.
