Which type of spray paint to use for grille?

I am going to Black-out my grille and want to know what kind of spray paint I should use to do this job?

A paint called " Krylon " is specifically for plastic.
You can probably get it at Walmart.
I would follow 2 or 3 light coats with another 2 or 3 light coats of " Stone Guard " clearcoat.
This should make your paint last a little longer & be more chip-resistant. ;)

First, make sure your grille is plastic. Some are metal. Krylon Fusion for plastic or Krylon Exterior-Interior for metal. It is also better if you use primer first to allow better paint adhesion to the part. I prefer semi flat black with a semi-gloss or satin clear coat, looks more high tech.

Ok, so you want me to put a coat of spray on primer first, then a coat of semi-gloss black with a semi gloss clear coat? Just wanted to get this straight before I start everything.

I am not looking for my grille to shine but want it look like something that would be used on the much newer cars

Also make sure you get it 100 % clean first.
You could use Alcohol to clean it .
Follow the directions for the primer & paint exactly. ;)

If your existing grille is chromed, plastic or metal, you may want to roughen the surface first with steel wool, medium grit sandpaper or scotchbrite pad. Clean with dawn dishwashing liquid first then clean any left over residue with isopropyl alcohol. Get a sandable black primer, prime, then lightly sand out any irregularities and wipe clean. Prime a 2nd light coat again. Then use the Krylon semi-flat black paint, with this color, the grille will have a slight lustre. Then use the Krylon Crystal clear SATIN to give additional protection to the painted finish. DO NOT mix brands of paint. i.e. Krylon is an enamel paint type. Other spray paints are lacquer or latex based. Good luck and cheers:cool:
