Sticky Sap

I have some sap like substance on the roof of my car and I don't know how to get it off. I tried a little goo-gone to no avail and would like to get it off before I detail the car again. I also tried clay and that didn't work. It doesn't really stand out but it bugs me and the last thing I want is to stain the paint on this car. Any tricks out there I should try?

Have you tried one of the citrus cleaner (P-21 total car wash)?

Also you sure it is a sap as opposed to a small blob of paint?

I haven't tried a citrius cleaner and and almost positive it is not paint. It is some sort of sap because there is a little on the window as well as on the roof. I'll try that car wash stuff next time I need to clean the car.

after I wrote my reply I googled `goo-gone`I read that this is in fact a citrus cleaner, I don't know that the P-21 will work better than goo-gone and the P-21 may be pricey.

I know of a very good citrus cleaner (probably less expensive than the P-21) it is called De-Solv-It made by Orange-Sol 1-800-877-7771 www.orange-sol.com

De-Sov-It does specifically state that it removes tree sap.

Since it is on the windows, probably sap, and I would guess that hot water may knock down the sap due to the sugar content.

Also check out this site http://www.bmwworld.com/repairs/detailing/tree_sap.htm

they do mention orange based citrus cleaner in the article

Try some denatured alcohol on the sap.

It might interest some to know that all the "sap" found on cars is not always "sap", but it is "bug poop" caused from the sugars that the bugs cannot digest, so they Poop it out.
I use mineral spirits, seems to work fine

Bug & Tar remover, pick a brand you like. I've used turtle wax brand for years.
