Thought I should share this with everyone, about a month ago I got a huge bomb from some bird which landed right on my 2001 E-class' front grill, covering the chrome as well as the black plastic, about 3 inches in diameter.
I was stupid enough to have only rinsed it with water and waited till the next day to take it to the detailer for a fix. While the wash could remove the stain on the chrome, apparently the dropping was too acidic having eaten right into the clear coat on the black plastic horizontal louvers. So I was left with a big dull stain covering three slots on the otherwise brand new shiny black grill. After much of my complaining, the detailer took out a creamy solution and with 5 minutes of rubbing, he managed to removed part of the stain. He said, come back next time when you wax and we'll remove it all for you. Another 3 weeks passed before I took the car in for a wax. This time however, much to my horror, after the detailing, he told me, sorry, it's too late now, I have tried polishing it out but without luck! He suggested either to find out how thick the clear coat is and possibly wet-sanding it, or to have it repainted! Of course, after seeing how he magically removed part of the stain the first time, I suspected that he was using a different and wrong polish on the second time and insisted on taking home a small bottle of what he used previously and giving it a try myself. Well, after some serious finger work for almost 2 hours last night, believe it or not, I managed to remove all of the dull stain which everyone has told me it's permanent. Unfortunately, when I returned the solution to the shop this morning, the guy wasn't there so I couldn't find out exactly what kind it is. I believe it's a 3M solution, it's creamy in color and texture, amazing stuff. |

I just threw out an old yellow can of compound polish - specially formulated for bird droppings. The birds flying in your district must be really full of S***.
Do take your time to scan through the products on the shelf. If you can't find one specially for bird droppings (coz its not a very profitable item to keep as its slow moving), you might want to invest in a compound polish, which works to really polish deep, and then wax it of to gain that shine. It may not work to complete satisfaction as I suspect the dropping may have eaten into the paintwork. So - now we know that droppings are not to be washed the day after ...
