Acid rain stains
Got caught in a rain storm driving my new car home from the dealer.I washed it the next day,and noticed that the water markes would not come off. I tried a good glass cleaner, but to no avail. Any sugestions would sure help.

Acid rain test
I hate to be the one to break it to you but what it sounds like you have is etching into the paint from pollutants and acid and it is more common than you think. Being on the east coast cars used to come into the country and sit at the docks with "cosmeleen" on them that protected the paint and we all paid that dealer prep fee to remove it and deliver a spotless paint job. Now cars come with that white plastic on the tops and hoods and this protects from the elements but when a dealer preps a car for the lot and it sits out in the weather it is inevitable that acid rain etching occurs. If it is caught early enough it can be compounded off the car but after a few months your stuck with it. I am not talking water stains here, bring you clean car in a garage with flourescent lights and look at the paint. Is it etched? If so, your stuck.
To date there is no known way to remove it unless you basically sand down the clearcoat to remove the layer of etching. I do not see one dealer out there willing to do this. I guess thats why the big money cars live inside the dealer not outside. |

If this was not there before the rainstorm then I would use a clay bar. Clay Magic, Meguiars and Mothers make one. Buy it at your local autozone, pepboys, etc.

Clay bar on glass?
I didn't realize clay bars were for use on glass.
How is Rain-X as far as protecting glass from spotting?
