I recently purchase a 1991 300D. There is a badge on the back from the dealership that it was originally sold at (10 years ago). The car has been garaged since it was new. If I remove the dealership badge what are my chances of having a dark circular spot on my trunk where the badge used to be?

I really don't like the badge, but if removing it will leave a spot I will leave it on. Any suggestions?

Since the car has been garaged, you may be ok. I would try removing it.

"Ditto"

Any spots can be polished clean.

I was concerned about exactly the same problem when I had my 83 300TD. I removed the badge, and as mentioned above, worked the area with a little bit of polish and then waxed. The results were not noticealbe unless you held a bare light bulb up right next to the surface.

What is a dealership badge?

BTW Ben... Whatever happened with the accident? How did it all go? I see you got a new car? How do you like it? What's different about it? Maybe a new post for this! I would love to hear how everything is going.

Take off the badge; it will probably leave a vissible spot that can be polished till nearly-not-vissible. Any vague, nearly not vissible spot is better as a dealer badge!

Well, I removed the badge today, and the results are good. The paint color is the exact same, the adhesive came off easily without any paint damage, and even without detailing it is hardly noticable that any badge was there. Within a week or so I plan on detailing the exterior, so I will remove any traces of the hideous thing.

David, I will soon post on the results of the accident. Everything went quite well.

What method did you use to remove the badge?

I slid some heavy duty fishing wire between the badge and the paint. This removed the badge, but left some adhesive behind. I simply rubbed the adhesive away with my thumb, then washed the area with a little bit of water. I have since washed the car twice but have not waxed it and the spot where the badge was is completely unnoticable.

Thanks for all of the input!
