yellowing headlights

people have posted MANY different solutions involving sanding, etc...

you apply via an applicator pad, rub around for a bit as you watch it disappear, and wipe away with a micro fiber...

all I'm saying is...
its epic, its cheap, less labor, and it works...
turtle wax ice interior cleaner

does this!

here's a vid of me & the subaru last week, sorry for the cellphone quality, but I had to go, and it was the quickest means of showing,....

It works but it's not long lasting. Once the "anti-yellowing" coating wears off it's gone.

I have a small mini-buffer I use on the lenses at oil change intervals to keep them shiny.

5-10 minutes extra every three months is a cheap investment in appearance and safety.

Yeah, mine have started getting cloudy again. Apparently, plastic is not the optimum material for headlight lenses.

Part of the trick of sanding/buffing plastic is to use an abrasive/buffer that gets the plastic off, and then gets it hot enough to melt back into itself on a microscopic level - a flat surface won't get dirt trapped in it and presents the minimal surface area to the elements. HOWEVER, get plastic a little too warm with a buffer...and you have a junk part.

my friend that details doesnt use that stuff..He uses sand papers and steps the grits up until the plastic is polished and clear again. I think he throws in some aluminum polish to help the process.. I dont know I was only watching

The kit I used came from Advanced Auto I believe and it included two very fine grits of wet/dry sandpaper, some kind of liquid polish, and a hardener. They looked great when I was finished, but as I said above, they have started clouding up again. I believe it was about two years ago that I did that.

I used a 3M kit and a hand-held drill motor on the '96. Worked great. I re-polish a few times a year to keep the lenses shiny. The interesting thing is that it's only the surface of the plastic that turns yellow, it's not all the way through. So, once you have sanded off the yellow, there's clear plastic underneath. Then you step down through the various grits in the kit until you have shiny lenses once again.
